8. AC CLASHES WITH THE "KING OF THE SOUTH"

Two Superpowers involved in the Mid-East

For a while, after the Antichrist so deftly defused and solved the dangerous Middle East Crisis with the Covenant, brought relative world peace and restored the World's economy, etc., most of the world will think that he is wonderful!--A real cool Superman! It says: "all the world wondered after the Beast!" Rev. 13:3 And he does not stop there, but "deceitfully" schemes onward to consolidate his influence around the world, even "upon the fattest places!"--Probably in prosperous Europe & the West! Dan 11:23
Yet inspite of all this so-called "world peace", the A.C. "King of the North" in his drive for power appears to threaten and eclipse the influence of his opposing superpower: "the King of the South", in probably the same arena as before the Covenant--the traditional powderkeg of international conflict between the superpowers--Israel and the Middle East! The AC even dares to challenge this mysterious "King of the South" militarily with a "great army", who then tries to beat him back with a "very great and mighty army!" Nevertheless the King of the South seems to lose this battle, as "they forecast devices against him" and because of betrayal within his own ranks! Afterwards, during their (U.N.-sponsored?) peace talks they "speak lies at one table."
This "King of the South" may very well be the leadership of the U.S. and Israel together, as America and Israel are politically virtually one and the same power! Although anything is possible of course, it seems very unlikely that, in these short last 7 years, some other superpower would rise from nowhere to take over America's place in the World's balance of power.
The Antichrist King of the North will then "return into his land" (Russia?) "with great riches" but "his heart shall be against the Holy Covenant!" It seems that he makes yet another move "toward the South" but the "ships of Chittim"--Cyprus, which some scholars believe to symbolise the U.K--"come against him" and he desists. But by this time the Antichrist is very indignant "against the Covenant" and "has intelligence" with other worldleaders who "forsake the Covenant!" Towards the middle of the 7 years he is so fed up and angry with this whole Middle East problem that he goes ahead and actually prepares to break the Covenant.—The freedom of religion and access to Israel's holy places for all fundamentalist religions involved. Keep in mind here the False Prophet and his new World Religion?

"And he (the AC King of the North) shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him. Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain."
"And both these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed."
"Then shall he (the AC) return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land." "At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter." "For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant." Dan 11:25-30
